It's been posted on a few other sites such as SilentComedians.com and
the alt.movies.silent NG that Image Entertainment is no longer going
to release silent film era movies.

Wonder how does this is going affect the Laurel and Hardy silent
shorts, that have been in release on home video from Image since the
90's on the different formats, VHS, LaserDisc, DVD?

Perhaps one of the other companies like Laughsmith will option for the
license on these?

Likewise with David Shepard, whose Blackhawk Films holdings have been
mostly released through image.

Many posters here have been wondering when the new Laurel and Hardy
box set will be released. With Image no longer releasing silents,
perhaps this is the reason why?

That is interesting; this will also affect other DVDs, like the Kino
Video films. Another source would be The Criterion Collection, but
they are rather pricey. I wonder if Image will eventually just go with
mainstream films, and stop releasing classics altogether.
