Hi,
Is this really the end of an era for buying brand new 16mm film
prints?
It seems to have happened so suddenly and have not seen any hinting
of this through the distributor on the web sites.

The man who ran David Shepard's film lab is retiring due to poor health.
There are other labs still open in the country, but apparently it would be
too expensive to move the negatives and/or other labs will be much more
expensive to produce a print.

Ray Healy will continue selling a few new prints through FilmClassic.com,
including some choice silent comedy shorts. Murray Glass still sells films
through EmGee Films. All of these are special order. There are a few
others producing prints that choose to remain unnamed. The Blackhawk films
collection was wonderful because of the huge selection of silent and early
sound films that were available. The more popular Laurel & Hardy, Chaplins,
and Our Gangs will be relatively easy to find on eBay. But titles that
Blackhawk never sold a lot of, like Larry Semon or Snub Pollard comedies
will be rare.

The Blackhawk Collection will be missed for sure. I ordered a print of
"Barney Oldfield's Race for a Life" two years ago from Blackhawk
and it was the best print I have seen on a early Ford Sterling film.
After seeing most of the works of "big time" comedians I like
to see the works of the ones who didn't quite make it in the history
books
or say "house hold names". Some of those are the best treasures.
Thanks for the info.
