Hitler and Stalin must have enjoyed a glass of ice water tonight as
TCM was finally provided with a very good broadcast master of a L&H
film, BLOCKHEADS. Was it my equipment or was there some tone changes
in the picture?

What TCM broadcast last night was (obviously) the Lionsgate DVD
version. Yes, you heard it correct, this version has audio problems
throughout the film in that the volume changes, going high, low and
high again, about three times during the feature. It's not your
equipment, it's the inferior sound quality of the print/DVD brought to
you by the fine folks at Hellmark/RHI-the people who could care less
about film restoration.

I should have been more specific, I meant color tone. It seemed to go
from a semi-sepia tone to lightly blue tinted monochrome in places.

Does Lion's Gate control any other L&H titles?

It was a solid black and white image all the through for me. I watched
it on a HD/LCD. Watching on an old tube set might be different.

Artison was Hellmarks home video licensees for home video/DVD releases
originally. They released one DVD. After Lionsgate bought Artison,
it's now all Lionsgate, who released onother DVD. Only 2 Laurel and
Hardy DVD's have been released in about 5 years. Quality isn't so
good. No film restoration whatsoever. The European DVD's are much
better.
