Greetings from your pals at www.inthebalcony.com.
First off, I'd like to mention a very worthy cause: in partnership
with the California Society of Enrolled Agents, we're helping out with
their scholarship fund, which doles out dough to worthy students in
the tax, accounting, and finance fields. This year's Internet auction
can be accessed at www.csea.org/auction and you'll find -- courtesy of
our friends at VCI Entertainment, Inc. -- a wealth of super DVDs of
vintage films, cartoons, serials, and whatnot. Lotsa whatnot. And even
a few whats. Please bid, and hey -- feel free to donate an item by
dropping us an email!
Speaking of VCI, they've recently released two cliffhanger classics on
DVD, and Your Balcony Scribe contributed bios to each of 'em. Look for
SCOUTS TO THE RESCUE (1939) starring Jackie Cooper and THE ROYAL
MOUNTED RIDES AGAIN (1945) with Bill Kennedy. We've got capsule
reviews of 'em up now In The Balcony, and you'll find sneak peeks of
four fantastic new serial releases from AC Comics, too, including THE
FIGHTING DEVIL DOGS (1939), one of the best-looking serial DVDs we've
ever seen, and three others. Visit www.inthebalcony.com for our
reviews, and if you love cliffhangers, don't miss Restored Serials'
outstanding release of THE GREEN ARCHER.
Speaking of reviews, you'll also find CURSE OF THE MUMMY'S TOMB, a
1964 Hammer horror favorite that is not yet available on DVD in the
U.S. Didn't stop us from finding it, though. And if you thought BY
INDIAN POST, John Ford's 1919 Western comedy/drama was lost forever,
well, you haven't been In The Balcony lately, have ya?
Finally, we'd like to acknowledge the outstanding cartoon DVDs that
have been coming out of Inkwell Images (www.inkwellimagesink.com). Not
only are these compilations of groundbreaking historical cartoons
presented impeccably, but the discs contain fascinating documentaries
that trace the history of theatrical animation. So far, we've reviewed
(and awarded a free copy of) BEFORE WALT, a look at pre-Disney
cartoons of the 'teens and 'twenties. Currently on our screen is the
KRAZY KAT KARTOON KLASSICS, a wonderful look at George Herriman and
his unforgettable characters, Krazy Kat and Ignatz Mouse. Highly
recommended, these discs can be ordered from Inkwell Images. We're
also giving one away this week at www.inthebalcony.com.
As always, you'll find a lot more musings, reviews, gripes, and
groaners over at our In The Balcony Message Boards, too, accessible
here: http://s13.invisionfree.com/In_The_Balcony/index.php?.
Thanks for reading, thanks for visiting In The Balcony, and we'll see
you at the movies!
