I challenge you to name a *sound* Laurel and Hardy film in which Ollie
doesn't get wet.

It seems that in every Laurel and Hardy film, Ollie is either:

1) Falling in water

2) Having water dumped on him

3) Having water sprayed on him

I have a theory about why this is, but it is neither here... nor
there...

There ya go. If you think there isn't a L&H film involving Ollie
getting wet, I dare you to name it.

Welcome back, Space Boss.

Ollie probably got wet more often than not, but I don't think he gets wet at any
point in: Berth Marks, They Go Boom, Chickens Come Home, Beau Hunks, Their First
Mistake, Me and My Pal, Oliver the Eighth, The Fixer Uppers, or Thicker than
Water. (I could be wrong.)

I also have a theory as to why Ollie got wet so often:

L&H specialized in slapstick comedy. Good slapstick comedy tends to generate its
biggest laugh by having pompous or dignified characters affected with some kind
of slapstick mishap. This could be getting dirty, as with mud or food on the
character's face, or by having articles of clothing torn, or by falling down, or
by getting drenched with water.

Side note: Whenever Ollie got wet, is was always with water, soup, paint, or
some other non-gross liquid. When a character in a contemporary comedy gets wet,
it tends to be from urine, vomit, or some other gross-out liquid.

PICK A STAR is another one in which Ollie remains dry.

Don't bother us with your theory, Spacy.
