Quality aside, it's the same US butcher job. The only complete
version is released on a German DVD with multiple languages.

Well, in case you didn't notice, this is not an item that is kept in
stock. If you order it, they make a copy on DVD-R for you. This isn't
a new idea, but it's the first time I've seen Amazon sell DVDs (or DVD-
Rs in this case) this way.

A correction to the very knowledgeable Mr. Faiola's comment above, the
German version isn't complete, but does run longer and is better
edited than UTOPIA. It's a beautiful print, and, unfortunately, dubbed
in German without English subtitles. But anyone familiar with the film
should find it easy to follow along, and the disc includes probably
the best print of UTOPIA available.

I'll admit I did a mostly thorough scan of the German version. What's
missing?

Hard to say exactly what's missing, I believe it's 8-9 minutes shorter
than the "complete" version, but probably about 6-7 minutes longer
than Utopia. Probably just an overall tighteding up, with some of the
Fraser/Cherie wedding and Alecto scenes cut. If I recall correctly
(I've seen too many variations on this film!) it's missing Cherie's
first song (the audition scene) and severely truncates here second
song (in the nightclub waiting for Fraser). In fact, the editing of
the second song removes pretty much any passion from it, which may
have been a specifically Germanic approach!

Well, I'll have to go back and look. Of course, it's short on one
hand because of the 25fps transfer.

You're right, the PAL speed difference will definitely shorten the
running time!
