I came across a 35mm silent film. Can anyone help me get more information
on it?

The reel band on it says it is reel 2 of MUD. The edgemarkings of the film
are Pathe.

This is a diacetate print, not nitrate.

Main character of the film is a little boy named Willie. This is an "Our
Gang" type of kiddie film.

The photography and settings look like a mid to late 1920s film.

If memory serves, this reel starts with Willie sneaking outside his home
covered head to toe with mud to find that his "Ma" and "Pa" are looking for
him.

Terrified, he gets into the house undetected and hides in bed where his
mother eventually finds him under the covers. Bed and all are covered with
mud.

Camera cuts away to the outside bedroom door as she spanks him fiercely.
His mother looks like a male actor dressed in womans clothes.

Willie goes back to sleep and dreams of a "Little Rascles-esque" cart
race/chase. He is in a goat driven cart (or it looks like him) and another,
heavier kid is in another type with a young girl.

After the cart race/chase Willie wakes up and is told to get ready to go to
school. The End.

I've done the usual searches on the net but MUD and WILLIE are too general
and I get nothing. I know nothing of the silent era "Our Gang" knock off
genere.

Would anyone be familliar with this two reeler film? Since this is
diacetate I assume there are others out there and this is not a lost film.

This folder on my webspace has 10 frame close ups of some of the key shots.

Thanks in advance.

The little girl riding with the fat boy is Peggy Cartright. From her
size I would date this from 1920-1922. As incredible as this may seem
I think the old lady is Jimmie Adams! The freckle-faced boy looks
like Johnny Fox and Adams has one known directional credit for a
Johnny Fox comedy.

Tommie,

Thanks for the information!!

This is the only reel I can't get information on.

Further information would be wonderful!

Darren,

I wasn't as astute as I thought.

The little girl with the fat boy is very likely Peggy Cartwright. If
you have the Harold Lloyd box set, she steals the first part of the
short FROM HAND TO MOUTH from Harold.

Si-Com guru Steve Massa has ID'ed the old lady as an actual old lady
named Helen Hayward who appeared in some of Harry Langdon's 1rst
National features. The little boy with the freckles he speculates is
Raymond Lee.

I have taken the liberty of linking your post to the forum at
silentcomedians.com where it will be exposed to the most authorative
fellows of Si-Com history. Check there from time to time and if you
have anymore Si-Com fragments to have ID'ed, that is the place to go.
