I remember hearing about the release of the sound Hal Roach Our Gang
comedies on this group over a year ago. What is the general consensus
in this group about this set?
I've just read some of the review on Amazon, for the most part, it
doesn't sound too good, but I'm considering getting them anyway, just
because most of these shorts I don't own in any form. More than one
reviewer mentions that there are edits in "Washee Ironee" and "Bear
Shooters." I haven't read all the reviews; one mentions that the
"Washee Ironee" edit is of the Asian boy spitting, but there's no
mention of what is missing from "Bear Shooters." Does anyone know

Also, does anyone here know the status of the surviving silents Our
Gangs?

I promised myself and others not to come back here, but I couldn't
resist. Even if it was only to see any response to my farewell
address. Thanks, guys; I'll check back every month or so. Love you
all.

Anyway, the DVD set in question is about the best we will see in our
lifetime. It's far from perfect, but a whole lot better than the PD
garbage out there. Buy it while you can.

Any of us over the age of 40 (or so.....maybe 50.....or so) treasured
the Blackhawk films. Why are we damning them now? No, they are not the
"original, restored, uncut.....etc." films, but they sure are
nostalgic. For the price we paid for two 8mm sound prints, we now get
a LOAD of them. Pretty good deal. Especially if you have a projection
TV. Get one. You won't be sorry. Just watched Keaton's "Cops" a few
nights ago and laughed like it was the first time I'd seen it.

Anyway, it's nice to see people posting about Roach (even if it isn't
about L&H) rather than what's been here over the past few months.
Again, love to you all, and I'll see you in a month or so.

What are you talking about - "best we will see in our lifetime"? We've
already seen better in our lifetime. Didn't you buy the Cabin Fever DVD or
VHS sets when they were out? They were far better than the load of rubbish
foisted on buyers by Genius Products. I can't believe some idiot mastered
the new DVD set using thirteen 16mm Blackhawk prints when they had legal
access to the RHI master material. I'm guessing they were running out money
and couldn't be bothered to search the vault for the material they needed.
