Picked this up tonight:

http://www.amazon.com/First-Kings-Comedy-Collection-Golden/dp/B000UAE7K4/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/105-2058231-7586024?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1192419271&sr=1-1

This is a new DVD with both "The Golden Age Of Comedy" and "When
Comedy Was King." It's released through Genius Entertainment, and has
an RHI Entertainment logo on the back cover. Both films are followed
with a Hallmark logo. (!)

What's going on here? I wonder if this might be a sign of good things
to come...or at least, better than what we've seen so far.

I wonder how RHI got their hands on these...

Quality is pretty decent on what I've watched so far. I did notice,
however, that the 20th Century Fox logo at the start of "Golden Age"
did not have its usual fanfare. Is that how it originally was?

This seems to be unrelated to another company, Telavista, releasing
these Youngson features...

Telavista also released "Laurel & Hardy's Laughing 20s," but Amazon's
listing says "This item is currently unavailable." (Surprise!)

There was no 20th Century Fox logo at the start of GOLDEN AGE because the
film wasn't originally released by Fox, but by DCA. This logo must have been
added later.

Fox did distribute WHEN COMEDY WAS KING, which I saw on first theatrical
release and when it was released to TV in the late 1960s. I don't recall a
Fox logo or fanfare on either occasion.

Thanks, Hal. That's interesting. On the DVD, "Golden Age" has the Fox
logo at the beginning, but "When Comedy Was King" doesn't. A brief
copyrigth notice flashes on after both of the films, credited to
"International Television Trading Corp." On the back cover, "Golden
Age" has a copyright notice for the same firm, but "WCWK" has "RO-CO
Productions, Inc."

In any case, great to have these available!

I bought the DVD with Golden Age and When Comedy Was King as well as
the Laurel and Hardy's Laughing 20s DVD. Looks like I got Laughing
20s just in the nick of time, because it has already been
discontinued. The quality on that one was pretty good (about as good
as the Further Perils DVD, maybe a tad better), the quality on When
Comedy Was King is better, and the quality on Golden Age of Comedy is
surprisingly good.

Anyone check out the 30 Years of Fun DVD??
