Hi Eric,
I have been lurking all along, but I quit posting about a year ago. I
broke my silence and posted a comment on the death of Charles Lane in
the obits group, and it appears to have given Roy L. a raging hard-on
because he made a big deal about it in that group, and now also in
this group (where I was not planning on posting), forcing me to post
rather than contact you via email (um, thanks Roy -- sometimes hard to
believe you are nearly 60 years old).

I won't be posting again with any regularity (the Lane death was a
biggie and, I thought, worth it), but I still like to check the
newsgroups every month or so.

I want to offer quick thanks to Hal Erickson who always was kind
enough to link up any online articles, and to post very nice comments
about my Arbuckle-Keaton book last December.

good luck, health, and happiness to all

Wish you would reconsider and post in a.c.l-h at least occasionally. Your
contributions to this group are sorely missed.

He claimed after getting a new computer (last year), it
wouldn't let him post in a ng!
I took his strange comment with the proverbial grain of salt
He could post anytime he wants.

I don't think Jim said that, I think someone else reported that Jim was
having computer problems. When I mentioned the alleged computer problems
a few months ago, several people corrected me, including Jim.
I'm starting to think you've been perpetuating that notion, but for the
life of me I can't figure out why.

When I bought a new computer I decided not to download usenet access.
It was taking up too much time and I became bored with it. But I
still lurked, picking and choosing the posts that were interesting and
informative. Somebody did state that I "lost usenet access" with the
new computer, which is not the case. Just wasn't interested in
posting anymore.

Well, a year or so later I decided to comment in an obits newsgroup on
the death of 102 year old actor Charles Lane, and for some reason Roy
did the usenet equivalent of jumping up and down and hollering "you
posted again, you posted again, yaaaaaahhhh." I would have quietly
returned to lurking after the handful of posts in obits, but when Eric
posted a question regarding me, Roy stepped in again so I posted my
explanation in here. Had he not, I would have emailed Eric and
explained.

It is no big deal, really, and this thread (which is cross-posted of
all things) is taking people away from discussions about films.
Please return to subject matter, and let me return to lurking.

Thank you for caring about where I am and why I am not here, but I'm
fine, everything's fine, hope you're all well, etc.

I will state that I finished my book on the Chaplin Essanays and am
currently at work on one about his Mutual period. Thanks for the very
kind comments about the Arbuckle-Keaton book when it came out last
year.

You didn't understand the joke, Jim.
I was glad to see you posting again, just poked a little fun at you
and you went all haywire about it.

Whatever you want to do is fine with me, Jim.
Believe, me, I wasn't getting 'excited' (the nice way of saying
what you crassly said about me, which was unlike you and way beneath your
usual dignity) about the deal, just poking a little fun at you ater you said
you would *never* post again..

I hope you aren't mad at me for poking a little fun at you and
the joke--which you apparently didn't get.
Wishing you all the best, Jim.

Hey, Jim. I'm not close to 60. I'll let you know when.
And when I get hard-ons, they certainly are *not* about you.

You already post. Anything JN says would be redundant.
