Are there any Laurel & Hardy "appearances" in MGM or Looney Tunes
cartoons? I can't recall off the top of my head. I ask because
Warners includes cartoons on their sets (there will be cartoons on the
Marx Brothers set) and should they do a L&H box, any cartoons would be
a natural...

Yes! Laurel and Hardy are in many cartoons. There are particularly good
caricatures in the Disney shorts "Mickey's Polo Team" and "Mother Goose Goes
Hollywood" (where Stan plays Simple Simon to Ollie's pieman). Also, L&H are
among Mickey's greeters in "Mickey's Gala Premiere".

At Warner Brothers, a "Haurel and Lardy" short is included in "Bosco's
Picture Show". Laurel and Hardy are caricatured as bumbling crows chasing
after a worm in "Hop, Skip and a Chump". Oliver Hardy is prominently seen on
the dance floor in the Tex Avery classic "Hollywood Steps Out".

In the Ubbe Iwerks cartoon "Ballonland", Laurel and Hardy appear as
balloons. Laurel and Hardy have prominant part in one of Walter Lantz's
early color cartoons, "Toyland Premiere".

There are many other appearances as well. These are the ones I could think
of off the top of my head.

They also appear briefly in Ub Iwerks' "Brave Tin Soldier" accompanied by a
brief variation on the kuku theme.

They also appear in black & white Ub Iwerks' cartoon "Movie Mad" (with
Flip the Frog). As Flip is chased throughout a movie studio, Hardy is
on the set making a pie while Laurel inadvertantly pokes him in the
eye. This leads to pie throwing and the Laurel cry.

Another classic FLIP THE FROG cartoon they appear in is "Soda Squirt"...

I remember seeing L&H appear briefly as fish in one of the first
Porky Pig cartoons, "Fish Tales." In the 1940 cartoon/live action
film, Porky Pig tries to sneak into a movie studio by disguising
himself as Oliver Hardy.

Thanks for pointing all these out to me, guys.

In another thread about the Abbott & Costello movies that Warner owns,
someone pointed out that the Warner DVD sets often include classic
Warner and MGM cartoons as extras (the Marx Brothes set will include
cartoons). They suggested a Warner A&C set would be enhanced by the
inclusion of Looney Tunes where A&C appeared as cats, and as mice.

I'm working on a letter to Warner Brothers urging them to release the
L&H films they own in a set (as well as the A&C films). Wish me luck!

The name of that is YOU OUGHTA BE IN PICTURES. And in addition, there
is the WB cartoon THE COO COO NUT GROVE (1936) with Stan as a monkey
and Ollie as a pig.
